Gangs of Wasseypur is a good Bollywood film, but better than the Godfather? Definitely not. It’s just that I expect quality in any type of film. I enjoy those type of films for the way it is.
I’m not one of those who’s going to downplay a superhero film for not being an Ingmar Bergman drama film. It is clearly a filmmaker’s labour of love, his. It needs a high amount of emotional investment and steady belief for a long period of time, armed with the knowledge of going against set norms, and eternal hope of introducing something truly unique to a receptive audience. I bet there are Bollywood fanboys who believe Shershaah is better than Apocalypse Now. Gangs of Wasseypur is not an easy film to make. If the Godfather is considered boring here, they’ll probably consider Winter Light as a terrible film. Wonder what they’ll think about Bergman, Tarkovsky, Bela Tarr, Von Trier, Kubrick, Kusturica, Lynch, Scorsese, Kurosawa, Lumet, Malick films etc. One of the most accessible classic mainstream film out there. Also, we have people here believing the Godfather is boring lol. Imagine thinking Gangs of Wasseypur, which is a third rate and cringey version of Goodfellas and Once Upon a Time in America is better than both the Godfather films. No offence, I’m just a frank person and it’s not about being more of a cinephile than others or not. It felt like an inferior Bollywood version of Goodfellas.
I would say the film is far more natural and powerful, plus doesn’t have cringey scenes like Gangs of Wasseypur did. Abhinav Kashyap at Gangs Of Wasseypur screening 13.jpg 585 × 881 150 KB. Abhay Deol, Preeti Desai at Gangs Of Wasseypur screening 15.jpg 585 × 881 178 KB. Your criticism is that the film didn’t have any laughs and it was a very tense. From the producer of THE LUNCHBOX (the most successful foreign-language movie of 2014), this is Indian cinemas answer to Coppolas, THE GODFATHER and Sergio Leones ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. If you were expecting some laughs from a serious dramatic film like Godfather 1 or 2, then such films aren’t for you. Presented by Adi Shankar, Producer of A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES, DREDD and THE GREY. Barely any dialogue from Al Pacino(Michael), yet his expressive acting was just about absolutely powerful while hugging Fredo, giving the signal to Al Neri to kill him with his cold hearted eyes.
This scene alone I’ve linked below is more powerful than anything shown in Gangs of Wasseypur and majority of Bollywood films. While it was a good film, there were scenes that were cringey like the one with Manoj Bajpayee and Reema Sen for example. At the turn of the decade, Shahids son, the philandering Sardar Khan vows. Now outcast, Shahid becomes a worker at Ramadhir Singhs colliery, only to spur a revenge battle that passes on to generations. GOW was a Bollywood-esque film and it appealed to Bollywood mainstream audience. Shahid Khan is exiled after impersonating the legendary Sultana Daku in order to rob British trains. Michael Corleone is a far more complex and a tragic character than anything shown in those GOW films. These data can be approximate and Bollywood fever does not make any claims about the authenticity of the data.LOL The Godfather 1 and 2 were way better directed, better written, well paced, had better characters, had better acting etc. This is Bollywood’s first commercial film to feature at the Cannes Film Festival during the Director’s Fortnight segment at the festival (2012).ĭisclaimer: The Box Office Data are compiled from various sources and by our own research. The scene featuring a flooded coal mine (just before Sardar Khan is born) is shot in a real coal mine that was actually dry. The slaughter house scenes were actually shot in a slaughter house in Allahabad.
